That’s Wholism …not Holism

May 18th, 2008 MG · 2 Comments

Wholism is about wholeness or completeness. It’s about using our whole being; body senses, intellect, feelings, intuition, and spirit to get a complete picture of what’s happening around us and being able to recognize a full range of needs; both ours as well as others. While wholism contains a spiritual aspect that may be considered holy, the central core of wholism is about wholeness, not holiness.

So why are some people spelling wholism without the “w”, i.e. “holism”. Here are some possible reasons:

1. they’re new and don’t have a deep understanding of what wholism is about

2. they saw others spelling it that way and sheepishly went along (that’s baa’d)

3. they did some research and found that the “holism” spelling is more “popular”.

4. they couldn’t care less about wholistic living, they’re just selling their product or service and their attention is on their sales pitch, not the trivial details.

While this whole spelling business might seem trivial to you, consider this. Most of us like to deal with people who know what they’re doing, like what they’re doing, and appreciate the real value in what they’re doing.

I would suggest to you those who can’t even get the spelling right may not be the ideal people to provide high quality wholistic services. Look for those who are truly wholehearted about what they’re doing. To all those involved in the wholistic movement mainly for material gain I ask you to consider what the hippies used to say, “don’t touch what you can’t feel”. Michael
